PLUTUS STORIES
Introducing the Plutus Money Guide
The Plutus Money Guide helps readers find financial educators, podcasts, publications, and communities by topic and format.
Search for help with debt, investing, buying a home, or preparing for retirement and you can spend more time sorting through sources than learning from them. People have asked Plutus to help narrow that field and point them toward educators and resources worth examining.
The Plutus Money Guide brings those sources together in one searchable directory. You can browse people, podcasts, publications, and communities, then narrow the results by money topic and the kind of resource you want.
A reader looking for a retirement podcast may need something different from someone searching for a financial coach or a clear explanation of investing. The guide gives each person a more useful place to begin.
Why Plutus is building the Money Guide
The Plutus Awards have recognized work in financial media since 2009. Plutus also works with financial educators through Foundation grants, Plutus Voices, the Plutus Impact Summit, and other programs.
Together, those activities have produced an extensive archive and ongoing relationships with people who teach, report, write, speak, coach, and publish about money. Plutus can connect historical recognition with current profiles, publication links, subjects, and professional information.
That combination is the reason Plutus can take on the Money Guide. The work begins with people and publications we already know through Plutus programs, then expands through deliberate editorial review.
Plutus Awards recipients appear throughout the guide. Other selected educators and publications extend its coverage beyond the Awards. Profiles identify confirmed professional credentials where they are relevant, along with experience teaching or working in a particular area of money.
Curating the guide also means paying attention to perspective. Financial decisions are affected by income, family responsibilities, culture, geography, disability, identity, career, and access to financial services. We want the guide to reflect differences in experience and approach because those differences affect which advice is useful in a particular situation.
The current directory is a starting point. Editors will continue to review profiles, confirm links and qualifications, add subjects, and look for gaps in who and what the guide represents.
How selections work
Money Guide inclusion is a separate editorial decision. Editors add a person or publication after reviewing the public profile and deciding that it is ready for the guide. Listings appear alphabetically.
Award recognition retains its historical meaning within a profile. Professional suitability requires a separate review by the reader. Before seeking individual advice, check the person’s current qualifications, fees, services, and geographic availability. Consider whether their experience applies to the decision you are making.
Use the guide to identify sources, then review their work and decide whose experience fits your circumstances.
Plutus Discoveries follows the new work
Financial educators publish new work every day. Plutus Discoveries will select recent articles, videos, podcast episodes, and newsletter items from people and publications in the Money Guide.
The team chooses the features and adds an editor’s note explaining why each one caught his attention. Discoveries arrives Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7 p.m. Eastern.
It has its own schedule and focus. The weekly Plutus Foundation newsletter covers Foundation programs, grants, events, awards, and community news. The signup form lets you choose Discoveries, the weekly Foundation newsletter, or both.
