7th Annual Plutus Awards Recap!

On September 24th, 2016, hundreds of people in the personal finance community gathered in beautiful San Diego, California to celebrate the 7th Annual Plutus Awards held at FinCon, the premier conference for finance writers and media. Prior to the ceremony, countless hours were dedicated by volunteers to make this ceremony the best one yet!

Before the ceremony, the Plutus Awards hosted their annual cocktail reception which gave nominees and guests a chance to mingle with elite sponsors and other professionals in a networking fun atmosphere over drinks and light hors d’oeuvres at no additional costs to attendees. We would like to thank generous members of the community for making this cocktail reception possible for at FinCon.

Special thanks to Pat Flynn, Grayson Bell, Rob Farrington, Michelle Schroeder-Gardner, Catherine Alford, Kyle Prevost, Martin Dakso, Robert Berger, Roger Whitney, John Schneider and David Auten, Todd Tresidder, Jim Wang, J.D. Roth, and Harlan Landes.

Hosts Matt Giovanisci of Money Lab and Ashley Jacobs of Wisebread kicked things off with Matt’s current single “The Boss” off his freshly released rap album Entreprenuer. Before the ceremony could start, they were already bringing down the house! After their rock-star performance, various awards were given out such as Lifetime Acheivement won by J Money of Budgets Are Sexy and Blog of the Year won by Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense Of Cents.

Here’s the full list of winners.

This year’s ceremony also included funny videos of interviews of bloggers family members trying to explain what they thought their loved ones did online, mean comments (like Jimmy Kimmels’ Mean Tweets) and a special blogger highlight reel announcing births, marriages, and other achievements during the year.

Plutus Foundation

Our founder Harlan Landes also made sure to take the stage to update everyone on our non-profit, the Plutus Foundation, which allows bloggers and others in the financial community to serve populations who are under served with financial access, knowledge, and empowerment with service grants.

The first project we are proud to sponsor is Eva Baker’s financial classes for teens. Here’s more information about the Plutus Foundation and how you can help us serve.

Hashtag Hustle

After a fabulous ceremony, of course we had to close the house down with a rendition of “Hashtag Hustle,” which can also be found on Matt’s album. Here’s to another fabulous year blogging and looking for write offs!

Special thanks to our ceremony partner State Farm and producing partner Fidelity who allow us to continue to give the personal finance community the recognition it deserves.
