The Plutus Foundation provides opportunities for the financial media to create, develop, and administer community based programs that enhance financial literacy, education, and empowerment.

The Plutus Foundation is a community foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

We will fulfill our mission by providing grants to organizations whose goals are aligned with ours: to improve financial literacy, to eliminate poverty, and to increase financial empowerment.

Meet the Executive Leadership

Harlan L. Landes
Harlan L. Landes Executive Director, Chairman
Harlan L. Landes founded one of the first independent "personal finance blogs," Consumerism Commentary, to hold himself accountable for his own financial decisions. The website became one of the most popular to provide basic financial guidance to young people, focusing on education, awareness, and decision-making.

Harlan also founded the Plutus Awards to highlight independent financial publishers.

Miranda Marquit
Miranda Marquit Director of Development
Miranda Marquit covers money topics as a financial journalist. She has been involved in local politics in the past and supports a number of social justice causes. Miranda has been involved with the Plutus Awards Executive Committee, and heavily invested in the personal finance blogging community and in financial literacy.
Jana Lynch
Jana Lynch Director of Grants and Programs
Jana Lynch has worked in and with the nonprofit sector for the past 16 years as a case worker, adviser, and administrator. Active in local nonprofits, she also holds Master's Degree in Urban Affairs and Public Policy with a concentration in nonprofit management.
Andrea Amir

Andrea Amir has over 13 years of experience helping people reach their financial goals as a realtor, mortgage banker and educator. Andrea is the founder of "Smart Money Chicks."
Ellen Cannon
Ellen Cannon Board of Trustees
Ellen Cannon is formerly the Editorial Director of the Financial Services websites at QuinStreet. She has covered personal finance topics as a magazine editor for more than 20 years, including nearly 10 at Bloomberg. Prior to joining QuinStreet Inc., she was the managing editor of, where she covered the range of personal finance issues, and specialized in credit cards.
J.D. Roth
J.D. Roth Board of Trustees
J.D. Roth founded Get Rich Slowly, wrote Your Money: The Missing Manual, created the year-long "Get Rich Slowly" course, and contributed the monthly "Your Money" column to Entrepreneur magazine.
Joe Saul-Sehy

Joe Saul-Sehy is the founder of the Stacking Benjamins Podcast. He is a former financial advisor and appeared twice weekly as the “Money Man” at Detroit television WXYZ-TV.
